Am I wrong in this, or do you not think that toast is one of the greatest miracles on earth? It is just so sublime and its simplicity. You don’t need to be a chef or even a cook to make toast. In fact, right at this moment, I am sure that there are tons of children making their own toast at this very moment. That all being said, I want to talk to you about elevating your toast to the next level with this goat cheese toasty.
We are talking about building layers of taste and texture that will just explode in your mouth. What I have here is some focaccia bread that I split open then drizzled some honey. On top of the honey, I layered some nice plump blackberries. Then I took some goat cheese and patted it into little rounds and then press that into chopped pistachios. Once all layered, into the toaster oven it goes.
What you get is this amazing layering of warm, crunchy toast with the sweet honey. Contrasted with the juicy tart blackberries, now warm and bursting with juice, topped with the tangy goat cheese, and finished with the nuttiness of the pistachios. Sweet. Tangy. Juicy. Cheesy. Nutty. On crusty on the outside, soft in the middle, delicious bread.
Now, let’s be honest, this is not some earth shattering revelation of a recipe. My friends, it’s more than that. It’s a lesson on how a group of simple things, nothing in itself, hugely remarkable. When brought together, though, and elevated to their potential, you end up with something far better than the sum of its parts.
This is the magic of cooking my friends. It’s not being knowledgeable about technique or using rare or exotic ingredients. It’s just making the best of what we got. And aren’t we all just trying to do that with ourselves?
