Celebrate Your Victories: Your Whole Life #3

victoryPear650I’m so excited to talk about this because I run into this situation almost every single day.

As I go through my day (playing tennis, shopping, etc.) I talk to folks wherever I go. People are always eager to speak to me about eating well, and we have a lot to share together, but what do you think almost every person does? Seriously, almost every single person I speak to does this:

The shoulders sag, the head goes down, and then they say, with voices filled with guilt and shame, “I know I need to eat better….”, and then comes the litany of the aches and woes of why they have trouble not eating well.

BUT here’s the amazing part! Not long into the conversation it comes out that some improvements have been made! Perhaps it’s less coffee, reduced gluten, or awareness of too much sugar. A lot of people are making efforts every single day- but no one feels like a victor.

Honoring the Victories of All Sizes

I have to tell you that I LOVE having these conversations. I love to explain to people that any change IS A WIN! It would be super great if we could just snap our fingers and convert to a power juicing, super slim, farmer’s market shopping, whole earth yogini- but it don’t never happen. And the fact that you’re not any of these things- is AOK.

So Stop It! stop it right now! Stop making yourself feel badly because you’re not living a wholistically perfect life.

Instead I want you to promise me you’ll do this instead. I want you to be proud of yourself for all the things you Do do!

Rethinking The Definition of A Healthy Lifestyle

First off, let me set you straight on something. No one lives your life. No one has your commitments or stresses, so no one should tell you that you’ve got it all wrong. But here’s what you can do. Work with what you have. If you can add a few healthier things into your life you’ll be ahead!

As an example let’s start with breakfast during the work week. If you were to consume a healthier breakfast 5 mornings a week, you would be improving your eating lifestyle by about 24%! That’s a huge impact just by skipping the donut and frappucino and having fruit and yogurt with some nuts. You can do that right?

But let’s say even that’s too much- Let’s say you typically snack each day. But instead, 2 times a week you skip the unhealthy afternoon slump snack and opt for something healthier– that’s an improvement- and you should feel good about that. That’s a victory!

Think about it like this: One teeny tiny health improvement each week = 52 positive victories each year.

I know you can do this and I am here to help.
